Laravel is a PHP framework, used in the development of systems for the web. Its main features are: allowing the writing of simpler and more readable code, and support for advanced features that speed up the development process.
With talks from experienced programmers and developers who shared their knowledge and experience, the conference was an excellent opportunity for the team to keep up-to-date with the latest technologies and reinforce their knowledge of web development best practices.
We share below some of the themes that marked the conference
- AI-powered content management systems (CMS) - the inclusion of Generative AI algorithms and tools in web applications and systems, was what Marcel Pociot presented in his talk "Give your Laravel App some AI". The use of these technologies allows applications to become more intuitive, easy to use, and strangely more "human". We believe that applying AI to content management systems has a huge potential to optimize time and resources in simple, repetitive tasks. ... we were full of ideas!
- The role of women in programming - Ada Lovelace was known as the first female computer programmer in history. From the early days of computing to the modern era of artificial intelligence, women have been at the forefront of innovation and progress. Despite this, women are still under-represented in this field. Some progress has been made and, fortunately, more and more women are specializing in Computer Science... but there is still a lot to do, as Zuzana Kunckova explained in her talk.
- The importance of testing - software testing is an essential part of the software development process. They ensure that the software is working properly and meets the user's requirements, several approaches and new tools to improve this process were presented.
- The challenges of Legacy code - anyone who has ever been faced with legacy code knows it can be a daunting task. This is outdated code that has been around for a long time and is difficult to understand and maintain. As Nicolas Carlo said, "Legacy code is valuable code you're afraid to change" ... however, with the right approach, there is no need to be afraid.
This was just a sample of some of the relevant topics that were covered in the two days of an intensely absorbing conference ... fresh perspectives on the PHP and Laravel ecosystem remain that will materialize in new developments in the projects we are involved in. New ideas translated into lines of code!
